The term 'unbundled legal services' refers to partial services provided by an attorney in a legal matter in which a client is representing himself or herself. It could be compared to ordering a meal at a restaurant. Today, it is quite common to pick and choose among the items on a menu and order what is desired as opposed to ordering a full meal. The same can be said today about most legal matters in the area of family law. If the client wishes, he/she can choose to have the attorney provide certain services for a flat fee while not being fully represented. The client does not need to have the 'full meal' with regard to the legal matter. For example if a client needs to modify orders such as custody, visitation or support, the unbundled method allows the attorney to advise the client and prepare the documents on behalf of the client while the client acts as his/her own attorney. This is also technically 'in pro per' and also a hybrid since it includes a client who both represents him/herself while at the same time getting attorney advice and legally correct document preparation. The client pays a low, flat fee for this 'unbundled' method. This is the best type of 'in pro per' since a client that attempts to handle his/her legal matter without attorney oversight runs the risk of making costly mistakes as well as wasting time and money.
