Limited Scope Legal Representations
Los Angeles Attorney Stephen Drucker
Legal Action Workshop
The law with regard to 'limited scope' or limited scope legal representation in California changed in 2004. This law allows attorneys in the area of family law to appear in court for clients while not fully representing them for the entire legal matter. It is also known as 'unbundled and bundled representation', since the client is represented by the attorney for the court appearance only. Essentially, 'limited scope' allows the in pro per client to be represented for a specified period of time, usually the court appearance. The client would contact the attorney when a court appearance is necessary and the attorney would evaluate the legal matter and determine the best course of action. This might include documents and/or certain kinds of legal procedures in the courtroom. The attorney would charge the client a flat fee to get the specific matter handled. If the client required another appearance, then the attorney would evaluate it in the same way and contract for another flat fee. Limited scope can be very helpful to in pro per clients as it helps resolve the legal matter for a lower fee while still allowing the client to be represented for a specific legal matter.
