In California, we have no fault divorces. A no-fault divorce state lends itself, in a majority of cases, to 'in pro per' actions. ' In pro per' means that a client is acting as his/her own attorney. Legal Action Workshop has created a unique attorney-assisted method in which the attorney advises the client, does all of the legal paperwork, filing and service while the client legally represents him/herself on the court documents. In essence, the attorney makes sure that the client's rights are protected and that all legal paperwork is done in a timely and complete matter. By using this method, the entire matter is overseen and completed by the attorney and the client has access to the attorney for advice or questions during the process. The attorney charges a low, flat fee for this method. This is technically 'in pro per' but it is really a hybrid since it includes a client who both represents him/herself while at the same time gets attorney advice and document preparation. This is the method that Legal Action Workshop uses for handling divorces that do not require full representation.
