Alternative Dispute Resolution, ADR, and Dispute Resolution
Alternative Dispute Resolution or "ADR" refers to methods in which parties settle disputes out of court. Alternative Dispute Resolution methods may include mediation, arbitration, early neutral evaluation, and conciliation. The goal of Alternative Dispute Resolution is to reduce the cost, conflict, and time delays typically associated with litigation in the courtroom. Some forms of Alternative Dispute Resolution are voluntary while others are mandatory. Two of the most common forms of Alternative Dispute Resolution are arbitration and mediation.
